Video and other media streaming is one area growing exponentially in the area of high speed internet usage. You hear about it everywhere you turn. Streaming allows the end user to eliminate long download times and play the file as soon as it arrives because the media is transmitted in a continuous stream. The files are generally transmitted as compressed, and this may alter streaming times a bit. So how can you get in on the fun of accessing music, movies, tv shows and sports worldwide? Begin by assessing your central processing unit (CPU) to see if it’s capabilities can handle media streaming. Next, assess your bandwidth capabilities to ensure they are adequate for this new technology. Technology today tends to become obsolete quickly, so when making your assessments, keep this in mind if you must upgrade your hardware, software and bandwidth. If necessary, get some advice online or from your local computer expert.

Thursday, December 31st, 2009Consider Limiting Your Kids Access To High Speed Internet
Tuesday, June 24th, 2008Control and limit the access your child has to high speed internet by clicking on your kid’s account in “Parental Controls.” Under “Communication” click on “Messenger Access.” Change the setting to “Restricted Access.” If your kids want to add new contacts, they have to ask permission first. This allows parents to know exactly who is on their kid’s list of chat buddies. Why is this so important? Because you want to know exactly who your kids hang out with. It doesn’t matter if it is at school, at the mall, at the park or online, the people you surround yourself have an influence on you and your children.
It is very important to track your kids’ online activities while using a broadband connection
Thursday, May 29th, 2008It is very important to track your kids’ online activities while using a broadband connection. Although some parental controls are set up by high speed Internet providers, you need to take the initiative and put your own safety measures in place. Monitoring MSN Instant Messenger conversations should be high on the priority list. You will also want to take into consideration all the places where chatting occurs. Don’t assume your children only use one service because there are tons out there.
Since ISP’s don’t limit what your kids can download on iTunes, this is why setting the parental controls is so important
Wednesday, April 30th, 2008Since ISP’s don’t limit what your kids can download on iTunes, this is why setting the parental controls is so important. Once you’ve set up iTunes to be safe for your kids to use, they can go ahead and have fun, listening to the music they love without the risk of coming across material they shouldn’t hear. iTunes makes it easy to listen to and enjoy audio content of all kinds, so rather than banning your kids from using it, take advantage of the parental controls to keep everyone safe. And allow them to explore music and podcasts safely.
Remember, every user account on your computer has individual settings
Monday, April 28th, 2008Remember, every user account on your computer has individual settings, so you have to go into iTunes under each of your children’s accounts and change the parental control settings from there. Your ISP also has settings so make sure and configure those as well. It can get tedious, but the safety of your children should be of utmost importance. High speed Internet providers don’t have the capabilities to control what your kids download from iTunes, so you have to set the parental controls specifically for this program. These settings are only available on iTunes 5, 6, and 7. If you choose to disable the iTunes store, the MiniStore will also disappear from the menu.
You may have overlooked a potential threat if you are not monitoring iTunes
Wednesday, April 16th, 2008If your kids enjoy listening to MP3s while surfing the net on your DSL or Cable line, and downloading music from iTunes, you may have overlooked a potential threat. Unless you set parental controls on iTunes, your kids may be able to download questionable music and audio content containing information not appropriate for their ears. Just like ratings for movies, music also has different levels of appropriateness. So it is important for you to take this into consideration when coming up with a game plan. You should definitely make a list of all the different programs that could potentially access the net including play station 3 and other video game consoles.
