Reclassification of Broadband?

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

A bill has been introduced in the House of Representatives by lawmaker Cliff Stearns (R) from Florida.  Among other things, it would require the FCC to conduct a study showing key broadband industry analyses such as cost-benefit and market failure.  The FCC chairman had planned to reclassify broadband to a regulated carrier.  The FCC chairman disagrees with the move by the Republican rep.  The GOP is against too much government regulation, which is why this particular bill was introduced — it would hamper the FCC’s goal to provide broadband to all U.S. residents, which would put the broadband industry under government regulation.
